Wide Woven Crossover Band with Alternating Rows of Round and Baguette Diamonds, 1cttw, in 14k White Gold

A wide white gold band whose whole top is built from rows of diamonds, one carat total weight, alternating between rows of nick set round diamonds and channels of baguettes. The rows run in two groups that cross over one another in an X across the top of the finger, so that the pattern reads as woven rather than striped. The profile is low and gently domed and the shank is wide, polished and tapered. 9.70 grams of 14k white gold.

A carat spread across this many small stones is not trying to compete with one big stone, and it should not be judged that way. What it buys instead is coverage: from arm’s length the top of the finger reads as a single silver-white texture with a diagonal running through it, and that is the whole effect. The alternation is what makes it work. A row of round stones between beads is bumpy and catches light in dots; a channel of baguettes is flat and catches it in bars. Put them side by side and your eye reads stripes even when the individual stones are too small to pick out, and then the crossover folds the stripes over each other. It is a band that looks like more than it weighs, in a size that means it. Try it with nothing else on that hand.
