Scalloped 3/4cttw Diamond Cluster Ring with Three Stone Center in 14k White Gold

Three round brilliants run straight across the finger at the centre of this ring, the middle one slightly the largest, each held in its own prongs. Around them sits a scalloped frame carrying smaller rounds, every one seated in its own lobe, with fine beading worked along the edges of the metal. Between the frame and the centre row the gallery is left open — clear space rather than filled metal — so the whole head lifts into a low dome with a pointed oval outline lying east to west. What dates a cluster like this is not the stones, it is how much work went into metal that is not holding anything. The scalloped lobes, the beaded edges and the open gallery underneath are all decoration in the mounting itself, and none of it is load-bearing.
