Open Nugget Ring with Polished Borders and Textured Cells in 10k Yellow Gold

A tapered yellow gold band whose top is a patchwork of irregular cells, each one a recessed field of fine stippled texture ringed by a raised, brightly polished border. The pattern runs across the top and down both shoulders before the band narrows to a plain polished shank. There are no stones. 6.20 grams of 10k yellow gold.

The whole design is one metal in two finishes. The polished borders catch light in thin bright lines, the stippled cells hold it as a soft glow a shade darker, and so a plain gold ring reads as two tones from across a room. It is also the right way to build a ring that gets worn: the raised borders take the knocks, and the texture underneath hides the small scratches that would show on a flat polished band, which means it looks the same after a year of work as it did the day it went on.
