Congratulations on your purchase! Having a written appraisal done on your jewelry is the first step in obtaining full and complete insurance coverage. The appraisal should be completed by an expert in the jewelry business. The Castle has one of the highest ratings with the Jewelers Board of Trade and has a Graduate Gemologist on staff to complete your appraisal. Once you have obtained a written appraisal, the appraisal should be forwarded to your insurance agent to be listed as a schedule on your homeowner’s policy. Insurance policies vary greatly so please check with your agent to make certain you are protected. You should have your appraisal updated every five years and The Castle would be happy to do that for you free-of-charge.
An appraisal is an opinion as to the authenticity, quality, design and value of a piece of jewelry. Since it is an opinion that is backed and supported by training, equipment and experience, it is important to understand that there can be honest variations between competent appraisals.
Most people commonly believe that the declared price evaluation is the most important aspect of an appraisal. This is not true! Actually, the most important part (and the most protective to the customer) is an explicit description of the jewelry item and accurately depicting the design, the metal and the stones.
